Angela is available for virtual bookings via our South Okanagan clinic.
Angela Matthies, MACP, RCC-ACS, CCC, RCAT, BCATR, is a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Registered Art Therapist and Approved Clinical Supervisor offering transformational counselling for individuals, couples and families.
Her practice supports people of all ages navigating anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, grief, trauma, chronic pain, relationship difficulties, family conflict, emotional regulation challenges, caregiving pressures, identity concerns and significant life transitions. She also works with people seeking greater self-understanding, creativity, purpose, connection and meaningful personal change.
Angela uses evidence-informed approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness and Somatic Psychotherapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and Attachment-Based and Systemic Family Therapy clinical orientations and perspectives. Her work is grounded in a trauma-informed lens, respect for diversity, cultural humility and recognition of each client’s unique lived experience.
Angela has specialized experience working with neurodivergent and exceptional populations, including children, youth and adults who are gifted or twice-exceptional (2e). Her approach recognizes the strengths and challenges associated with differences in attention, learning, organization, sensitivity, intensity, emotional regulation, communication and ways of experiencing the world. She also provides psychoeducational support and relationship counselling for partners, parents and families.
Alongside talk therapy, clients may choose to engage in art therapy and other forms of creative expression through colour, imagery, personal symbols, photography, collage, creative writing, journalling, dream exploration, metaphor and natural materials. These approaches can be helpful when words feel incomplete and can also support anyone seeking a deeper connection to creativity, identity, expression and transformation. No artistic ability or previous creative experience is required. The focus is not on producing art for others, rather on igniting a connection to creativity and developing healthy self-reflection within a positive therapeutic relationship -creating pathways toward insight, healing and meaningful change.
Angela also offers Walk, Sit & Talk counselling in nearby parks and beach settings, just a short walk from the clinic. Traditional office-based counselling and secure online sessions are always available.
